I'm Scott. We live in the Cotswolds: me, my partner, our two boys and a dog with strong opinions about the boot. In the summer of 2019 we collected our Model 3, one of the first right-hand-drive ones in the country, and it's been the family car ever since.

It does the school run every morning, gets my partner to work, and takes all four of us (five, counting the dog) up the M1 to see friends in Yorkshire a few times a year. In the summer it goes camping, usually in Wales or Cornwall, with a roof box nobody enjoys loading. It's done a little over 70,000 miles so far, and a Model Y arrives in February 2027 to share the load.

I started writing this because friends kept asking the same questions: what it costs to run, where we charge, what's gone wrong and whether I'd buy another. I have, so that's one answered.

If something here is out of date, or you've a question I haven't covered, drop me a line.

The referral link

You'll see our Tesla referral link in posts. If it's your first Tesla and you order a new Model 3 or Model Y through it, you get 650 free Supercharging miles (as of October 2026), and we get a small reward from Tesla. How referrals work has the details. We're not affiliated with Tesla.
